Apocalypse Lossiemouth

Lossiemouth, Moray, Scotland.

While leading a landscape photography workshop I noticed that a strong weather front had formed and at first light drama is usually not too far away from it. We hung about hopeful for a little elemental excitement and were fortunate to be confronted with some of the most dramatic bursts of crespuscular rays I can ever remember seeing. the spectacular show continued for a while and a very happy bunch of photographers returned to breakfast grinning like cheshire cats. Maybe a 5am start isn't quite so bad after all.

Great capture! The film captured the extreme exposure nicely and would have been tough with digital. This is a good example of having seen light first and objects a distant second; well done, most only see objects.

What I like about this photo so much is that it entirely relies on light for its impact. Without it we wouldn't have the point of interest in the sky, the varied hues in the cloud, those stunning 'Jacob's Ladders', the razor sharp horizon and all that superb texture and reflection in the sand. One of your best Ian.
