Turquoise at Gruinard

Gruinard Bay, Highlands, Scotland

For a short while on a summers day an hour after the turn of the tide the water at Gruinard Bay is just the right depth to reveal it's turquoise colours. From this viewpoint is one of the most spectacular beach locations in Scotland. It's a pity that over 60 years ago the government decided to test Anthrax on an offshore island (amid fears the Germans might attack the UK with biological or chemical weapons) which was so contaminated that it was deemed out-of-bounds for almost 50 years.
