This single conical spire is one amongst a group of black rocks growing out of beautiful and deserted Sango Bay at Durness in the extreme north. The hoped for 3.30am sunrise on a mid summers morning evaporated as surely as the sea mist swept in and I suspect everyone in our small group were disappointed. I have to admit I felt quite the opposite and was completely enthralled by the huge patterned sky that formed over the lone sentinel. The subdued colours spoke to me louder than the scream of a vibrant sunrise.
