Just prior to sunrise I rolled up to a deeply frozen scene rigid with hoar frost that covered every twig, branch, and wire post fence. The build up of frost over the three or four nights that it lasted was so dense it looked more like snow. Loch Achanalt is usually difficult to access without long wellington boots but this time the ground clicked like metal on flint displaying none of the characteristic suck of undulating bog.
