"At the head of the Garden Lake you will find a brick bridge over to an island.
Shrouded in trees and fenced off for safety, it was previously known as the Boat-house.
Steps beneath the bridge led down to a boat which was kept to ferry the family and guests back to the house."

Today's visitors have to walk back, of course!
