The nave (of my heart)

Blackburn Cathedral, Lancashire

"Entering from the west door, the nave is like a clear pilgrim's way, ending as it does at the High Altar: the centre and place of devotion and liturgy.
The floor of Derbyshire limestone is gentle and easy to the eye and contains various designs and fossils, covering the whole area with a natural finish.
The columns are constructed of stone from nearby Longridge. They are slender, almost single pieces of stone.
Above them cascade the delicate and gently pointed arches, which lose themselves in the quite unique and magnificent Georgian ceiling.
The fine vaulting of wood and plaster takes its part superbly with the sensible and straightforward stonework below."
