Not to plan...

Croome d'Abitot, Worcestershire

...as Robert Adam had originally intended for the church
to have imitation fan-vaulted ceilings in the nave and aisles.
In the end, the aisle ceilings were left plain, whilst the nave
received an eliptically vaulted ceiling with an intricately
moulded centrepiece in each bay.

anything further from Robert Adam than fan-vaulting would be difficult to conceive, but I did wonder if this was a token gesture in that direction
