Badbury Rings is one of the most impressive Iron Age forts in the country. Its three great concentric ramparts are well preserved, and encompass a huge area: the circumference of the fort is nearly one mile (1.6 kilometres), and some of the ditches are over sixty feet (18 metres) deep. Alongside the fort is Ackling Dyke: part of a Roman road that ran from Dorchester to Old Sarum (the original Salisbury).
