Recently, the NYU faculty against the NYU2031 plan published a paperback book "While We Were Sleeping: NYU and the Destruction of New York", McNally Jackson Books, NY, NY, 2012 in protest to the NYU Administration 2031 expansion plan that will destroy children's playgrounds, public park strips, the Washington Square Village Sasaki Garden, LaGuardia Corner Gardens, a dog run and over 300 mature trees for the construction of several skyscraper buildings in the heart of Greenwich Village.
This image shows a single scholar tree in bloom that survived the destruction of over 20 scholar trees in Washington Square Park that provided shade, a wind break barrier, and seating facilities around the fountain plaza. The photo also depicts one of a number of sick Siberian elm trees that mimics the health and beauty of the scholar trees that were removed according to the NYC/NYU agreements.
Such NYC/NYU actions symbolize in a very physical and spiritual way the destructive nature of this private/public liaison.
