The Loetschental is a magical valley branching off to the north from the Rhone Valley in the heart of the Swiss Alps. The train station is in Goppenstein, where the train literally pops out of a tunnel directly into the train station, then continues into another tunnel. There are well-marked foot trails criss-crossing the valley and cable cars that can take you up to villages high on the steeply sloping sides.
