I went to the national indoor athletics championships (day one of the seniors) to see whether I could get reasonable results with the 40D and 70-200 under fairly difficult circumstances. The games were held in the brand new indoor sports facility in Apeldoorn in the east of the Netherlands. The stadium is designed for cycling and athletics. That means that photography has to be done from quite a distance and from a high point of view, above the cycling ring. The weather outside was clear and sunny, and that resulted in a brighter area indoors, giving 2 stops of extra light to play with. Still most shots required ISO 640-1000. With the 40D, that produced a considerable amount of noise in the shadow areas, but the images are certainly usable. However, these images differ from outdour field photography more because of the high point of view, way above the action, than because of the lack of light. I made over 300 shots but will try to be very selective here. Curious what you think.....
