Terschelling is the second largest Dutch Waddenzee island, it is part of Friesland province.
It measures 87 square kilometers. Ferry boats sail to the island from Harlingen harbour (45 minutes
on the fast boat and 2 hours on the slow boat).
More than 4700 people live on the island. The first settlers arrived around the year 850.
Terschelling has 30 kilometers of beaches, 70 kilometers of bicycle paths and 15 towns and villages,
some of them very small. The main towns are West Terschelling, Midsland, Hoorn and Formerum.
