Circle Hot Springs

Alaska

It's a nice pool with very pleasant water and not too much sulphur. The area around the pool is rather old fashioned,
and seems to need some serious attention. In winter the cold air above the pool turns the steam into ice fog that settles on everything around it.

The bubbling hot springs of Circle produce 386 gallons of steaming water each minute. The hot spring water is used to heat the hotel.
For many years it even warmed and irrigated sumptuous vegetable gardens that were famous for their superb produce.
Local Athabascans used the hot springs as a gathering place long before the first gold miners arrived in the area.
The first non-native to discover the springs was William Greats, in 1893. In the years that followed many miners
spent their winters at the springs, using tents for bath houses, when the creeks were too frozen to work.
The resort is located off a spur road of the Steese Highway, eight miles from the town of Central.

If you like a hot spring without all the tourist, Circle Hot Springs is the place to visit.. Chena Hot Springs is also a very nice hot spring but it comes with more tourist.. I give them both thumbs up.. I do believe that Circle Hot Springs had closed a few years back.. I also heard that the locals still use the pool.. Its about 10 miles off the steese hwy.. If your out that way im sure you could stop by there and check it out or stop at Crabs Corner and ask them whats up before heading out 10 miles.. For those who dont know.. Circle Hot Springs and Crabs Corner are in Central, 30 miles south of Circle Village... Dave
