Mr. Binnendijk, I enjoyed looking at your pictures. I notice in this one of the Chena River bank there is the golden light on the snow that I remember. Many of my snapshots from 1968-69 look similar. We were in the army at that time; son born at Fort Wainwright; we lived in the Anderson Apartments on 10th Street. For something to do we would drive to the airport to watch the planes came and go. My memories of Fairbanks are: The Polaris Hotel (no pictures of it unless they are the same as the Northward Building); plugging the car in at night; the army's Birch Hill ski area; the earthquake in 1967 and the flood which followed; the hospitality of the people who hired me at Wally Cathcart's downtown Fairbanks Insurance Agency; seeing a moose for the first time out on the highway and remembering that it looked exactly like Bullwinkle; Driving to Felix to look for gold in the talings; celebrating two Christmases and the birth of my son there. Good memories.
