Where did all the cherry blossoms go??

Drive-by shot taken from a Lyft car on the Tidal Basin, where Washington’s iconic cherry trees were in peak bloom on Saturday and Sunday. I had mentioned in my cherry blossom pictures a heavy rain and windstorm forecast for Sunday night and wasn’t sure what would be left of the cherry blossoms. Turns out, not much. The spectacular white and pink flowers, as in the picture below, usually last for several weeks in good weather, so when I saw these ruined blossoms on Wednesday, I was downright shocked.

Cherry blossoms up close and personal, posted earlier:

They are so fleeting.

The cherry blossoms, wherever they occur are so anticipated and then... to have them knocked back is so sad. They are a fleeting beauty at the best of times, so we all want to enjoy them for as long as possible. VV

So sad they didn’t last long. So lovely to be in DC when they are in bloom. V

A little wind and the blossem is gone, but still a beautiful photo. V

Looks like they are somewhat weather sensitive a drop in temperature and wind beautiful while it lasted.
Seeing is believing excellent image for proof.

They are so delicate and not so wind resistant these gorgeous blossoms unfortunately Great shot anyway. V!

How sad. Some years, I've seen the same happen with the flowering trees here, With days of bad weather predicted, we're now waiting to see if this year might be one. At least you got some nice photos before unpredictable weather & wind did its destruction,

Such short-lived beauty. Such delicate beings, blossoms.

It's a shame that happened. They look to be one of the hi-lights of Spring. V

It is sad to see. I like the father and son looking over the scene. V

What a shame the blossoms were knocked off by the wind and rain. At least you saw the wonderful displays while they lasted.

It makes you savour every day you can see them.

It must be the prettiest sight to see. I like the inclusion of the two in the corner. V
