Hōryū-ji Kondō, Nara

This Buddhist temple was founded by Prince Shōtoku in 607. Rebuilt at least 1,300 years ago after all buildings were burned down due to lightning in 670, the Kondō (main hall) is widely recognized as the world's oldest wooden building.

It's a beautiful building - what history! And I imagine there would be a lot more people around it if you visited it nowadays. V

A super shot of this ancient wooden temple, Helen. The different levels, with their partial curving roofs have always fascinated me, though I have never actually seen one firsthand.

Nice photo of this wooden building just thinking the type of scaffolding required to finish the second and third floor.
Nice composition showing the full structure.
