Giant tanuki, Kamakura

Representing a Japanese racoon dog, tanuki are an ancient and much-loved part of Japanese folklore. They’re believed to bring good luck and fortune, which explains why they're such a common sight at the entrance of houses and businesses throughout Japan. We actually have a small one in our backyard.

What a neat capture of the cultural icon. The people in the frame give me a good sense of scale.
