The US Capitol was completely surrounded by barriers and police during the July visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in anticipation of large protests. There were demonstrations and violent incidents while he was here, but mainly at Union Station, a few blocks from the Capitol. The fences have since been taken down, but I suspect they’ll go back up after the November general election.
