Sentosa Island

Sentosa is an island located off the southern coast of Singapore’s main island. Formerly used as a British military base and afterwards as a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp, the island was renamed Sentosa in the 1970s to become a popular tourist destination. It is now home to a popular resort that receives up to 25 million visitors per year.

I believe this was taken from the cable car that went to the island; I don’t think the resort and all the tourist attractions were open when we were there.

We had a sail with dinner on board around Sentosa Island, the shipping harbour at night was amazing as we came back to the mainland

It looks very fancy. I bet it’s very built up now. V

Ah, this is nostalgic. This is one of the things in Singapore that has changed. Previously even big ocean-going cruise ships used to berth here, to embark/disembark passengers. But to reach the piers, they have to pass under the cable-car ropeway from Mt Faber on the main island to Sentosa Island. In 1983, a ship hit the ropeway, causing 2 cabins to plunge 55m into the sea and killing 7. A dark chapter in Singapore's history. Since then, a new Singapopre International Cruise Centre has been built at Marina and all big cruise ships now berth there. Only small boats are now allowed to use this pier opposite Sentosa... and you are right that the casino resort in Sentosa was not built yet at the time of your visit. V

I googled the name of the ship Maxim Gorkiy and it had an interesting history.
