Surprise visitor

I found this insect trapped in Queenie’s water bowl out on our deck and thought it was pretty interesting looking. Apparently it’s a two-lined spittlebug, which is widespread in the Eastern US. I tried to get a shot of it with my iPhone and then dumped the water out. Hopefully it managed to find its way out of our back yard.

What a beauty!! I would love to see one of these big spittlebugs, but I don`t think they occur up this way. Very colourful compared to the ones we see here. They apparently do very minor damage to grass and sometimes to hollies. I am glad you rescued it. VV

I've never seen one of these in real life. And from what I've read about them, I don't want to!!! Very distinctive bug.
