Run down, Macau

I originally scanned this picture because of all the colorful decorations on the building, which, the more I looked at it, seemed to be abandoned, but judging by photos of other buildings in Macau that look to be in similar disrepair, I think it was probably still in use, just run down.

*****

Macau is an autonomous region on the south coast of China, across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. A Portuguese territory until 1999, it reflects a mix of cultural influences. Its giant casinos and malls have earned it the nickname "Las Vegas of Asia."

You are probably right. I'd bet it was occupied. Better upkeep on the lower levels.

The red letters and decorations are a striking contrast to the decay. V

I wonder if these shophouses are still exist since there are a lot of new developments in Macau in recent years, V

Yes, the building looks very dilapidated. Wonder if the upper floors are occupied? The windows/doors are broken in places compromising weather protection against rain, and no tell-tale signs like clothers hanging in the balcony etc. V

They are definitely in bad shape. They don't look safe to be in or around.

A lot of places in China were like this around that time. Although I haven't been to this part of China in many, many years, I'm guessing things may be different now. However, maybe this particular local neighborhood of "old" Macao still has problems... Either way, this is an interesting look at the times.

beautiful multicolored decorations, however these buildings require some repairs to preserve the Portuguese heritage of the past! V
