Appliance shop, Panyu, China

Either that or a repair shop we happened to pass by.

*****
We went on a day tour from Hong Kong to the urban district of Panyu, situated on the Pearl River, and the city of Guangzhou, both part of China’s Guangdong Province. The trip was a disaster since Tim was sick for most of it and our tour guide switched places with another guide but took our group’s visas with him, as a result of which the authorities at the Guangzhou train station refused to let us leave the country, which was pretty scary. We finally got it resolved with the tour agency but insisted on leaving China that night, only possible on a ship heading for Hong Kong since the trains didn’t run overnight.

Maybe a used shop. Love the green appliances. I remember those. V

Bet you can get yourself one for a pretty good price. You might have to pay more for one that works though.

Looks like the 70's avocado was still in fashion in China in the '90's. My guess would be that it's a repair shot. Nice slice of life catch.

Nightmare situation! Reminds me of when we visited East Berlin and had to turn over our passports - circa 1975 or 1976. We were at Checkpoint Charlie and Bill started to take movies (pre-digital days) and was told he couldn't do that. We were only allowed to take 20 marks into East Berlin. We were very uneasy being there.

Interesting to see the old and new buildings side by side. V

With the exception of the Iron Curtain on the left and the fridges, it looks like the China I discovered in 1981 !
