'Earth-shattering' temps in DC

We used to keep this bowl of water out for Sahraa, and after she died we just left it in the patio because the sparrows seemed to like it. Naturally, it’s been freezing here before, and the water always froze, but this time it was so cold (down to 9 F/-12.7 C) the past few days, the bowl finally shattered.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly unsharp.

Water expands 9% when it freezes, it can do damage alright.

Wow. I never thought about freezing temperatures being able to shatter a bowl. As it was Sahraa's bowl, I am sorry to hear that it's damaged.
