They’re back

I saw this bee on our deck while chatting with our neighbor. I’m afraid of bees, but this one was focused on the wood of our railing. I assume it’s a carpenter bee, which always hang around here in spring and summer, looking to make holes in our deck.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly
unsharp.

Bumble bees are fuzzy and cute. Yellow jackets are evil murderous creatures! Really nice detail on the bee. V

Nice shot of this beautiful Bumble bee.

They drill holes in our decking too. It's amazing to watch, but destructive and we have to kill the bees. V

According to this website, the best way to tell the confusing difference between a carpenter bee and a bumble bee is to look at their abdomens. The carpenter bee has a shiny black abdomen and the bumble bee is fuzzy all over. https://carolinahoneybees.com/carpenter-bee-vs-bumble-bee/

Very nice macro! You needn't be afraid of Carpenter bees, males can't sting and females only sting if handled roughly or otherwise provoked. Also, bumblebees and honey bees are very docile and only sting when bothered.

I'm not afraid of bees - I just don't like them bugging me...
