Roadblock

I went back to see what was going on with the linden tree that fell on a car waiting at a stoplight (below/previous picture). The red car had been parked and wasn’t touched by the tree. The trunk of the tree was hollow, so I imagine it was just a matter of time before this happened.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly
unsharp.

What can happen when you’re just waiting at a stoplight, posted earlier:

Our horticulturist calls them Zombie trees. Alive on the outside and dead on the inside. And an accident waiting to happen! Great reportage, Helen. V

Rotten tree - it was time for it to go...
David Buzzeo03-Jul-2021 03:55
You are correct, it could have been a lot worse. V
Don Mottershead03-Jul-2021 01:18
Yup, that was inevitable.

Yikes, the crash must have been so loud. Lots of green leaves so hard to tell it wasn’t OK till it fell.

I wonder if this was a red oak, which our downed tree was. The guy who cut it down told us that fallen red oaks are often hollow - some sort of fungus attacks them, I think. https://homeguides.sfgate.com/fungus-grows-inside-hollow-oak-trees-69458.html

They’re so dangerous these hollow trees or those with hidden ruptures. Fine capture. V!
