What can happen when you’re just waiting at a stoplight

I saw several police cars pull up at the other end of this block of Massachusetts Avenue and couldn’t figure out why there were there until I saw this. There was no ambulance, so I’m assuming that luckily nobody was injured, but yikes – this is the fourth major tree collapse that I’ve seen in the past two months within two blocks of home. This occurred after a violent thunderstorm; we then had a worse storm in the evening with a tornado watch for DC, Virginia and Maryland. We also had some flooding in our basement (but mainly due to a window that a contractor hadn't totally closed).

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly
unsharp.

I'm betting those folks in the car got a nasty surprise when the tree fell. Good that no one was hurt though! V

Yikes. It's amazing no one was hurt if there was somebody in that car! Great capture of this event.

Yikes. That would catch your attention!
Bill Miller03-Jul-2021 01:13
That would have been a terrible fright for the car occupants

A neat shot, the national news said D.C. had two tornados pass through town.

Nice capture of this tree falling seem like we are in a era of things falling down lately.
Glad no one was hurt I can hear the driver just stopped for a red light,
Looking at he base of the tree it was having some problems for a while.

That looks very scary. The driver is lucky it hit the trunk. The weather has been wild.

Great capture, don't you just hate it when that happens!

How lucky those homeowners were! This tree is about the size of the one that went down in our ravine.

Incredible but freightening if it happens to you. About 10 years ago it happened to me and my car while I was driving on a small road in the countryside.

a lucky escape for a very surprised driver...looks like rot in the stump...perhaps some trees are past their best-by date, like some politicians...excellent look at the scene..

Oh my! Glad no one was hurt...would have been shocking to be sitting in that car when it happened. V
