Left behind

Last night I saw a cicada on our deck after a heavy rain, struggling to flip itself over, although even if it had managed to do so, I doubt it could have flown away since it was water logged. I’m terrified of insects and would never willingly touch one, but I felt sorry for the poor little guy (and Tim didn’t take several hints to help it), so I guess it stayed there all night. It was gone this morning, most certainly eaten by a bird, and all that was left were its wings.

I did notice several dead cicadas on the pavement during our walk this evening, so perhaps they don’t do well in heavy rain. All in all, though, for some unknown reason, Capitol Hill seems to have been spared the huge invasion of these insects that other areas have experienced. Maybe it’s because we have so many birds resident here, the cicadas never had a chance.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

Everybody knows about the fat cats in DC, but now you will also have a bunch of fat birds.

It’s quite sad. It’s so interesting in how the droplets seem to be bubbling up from underneath. V

Nice image my daughter lives in Maryland and she tell me your area and hers are having the brunt of the infestation.
Have not seen one in Delaware yet last year we had the Lantern Bug infestation .

The wings are beautiful even if the insects give you (and me) the shivers.
