A mouthful

I heard a lot of flapping in our neighbor’s tree and thought maybe a large bird was in it, like the hawk I once saw, but this is what I found instead. The insect is so big, it looks like he doesn’t quite know what to do with it.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

Good catch, by both of you. That 17 year cicada spent all that time in the ground just hoping to get lucky when it emerged instead it was just a snack.
