Last year our 20-year-old (at least) peony didn't bloom, the first time ever, apparently because we had built a fence behind the carport that blocked the afternoon sun. I was devastated. So we transplanted it into a huge pot, put it in full sunlight and hoped it would survive. I was thrilled when I saw shoots start to come up, and now the plant has gone crazy, fully leafed out with 10 buds. I can hardly wait for them to bloom!
