Camped out

Tim saw the National Guard camped out in our park this morning. There were many more shields and troops waiting to be transported somewhere. I had hoped to go see for myself but simply have had too much work to get out of the house today.

We went down to the US Capitol, or at least as close as we could get, to see what things looked like. I'd have to say it was an almost surreal way to spend a Sunday afternoon -- photographing the many Capitol Police, National Guardsmen, Metropolitan Police, military trucks, police cruiser roadblocks and high fences that now populate our beautiful city. I'm hoping that we can all come together as a country and put a quick end to this kind of thing because this is no way to live.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

A really fascinating but strange sight on an American street. The woman looking on with her dog is a strong contrast to the rest of the scene. V

So happy to see all go so smoothly - and although different, it was an enormously impressive occasion. !

So happy for the successful inauguration after so much preparation.

Despite the military presence, the inauguration wonderful. The way forward is still difficult but there is reason to hope now. Nothing beats a good start! V
