Revelation

I saw this ladybug on our deck table and thought it was sitting on a fly or something ;-), but after doing some research I learned that those are actually the ladybug’s wings. I was talking to my next-door neighbor when I saw it and asked her if ladybugs had real “wings,” and she said, “Sure, the red things on either side of its body,” which is what I had thought. Anyway, it was certainly a revelation for me!

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Still insect-less, posted earlier:

Very nice image Helen, and I totally agree with Christine's explanation, you don't often get to see the wings and that's what makes it interesting BV

Cool shot!! I find this a really beautiful image in all its colourful, shiny, simplicity. Those are indeed the wings, under the hard elytra which are essentially forewings protecting the hindwings! VV

Symbolizes Good Luck charm in many places. Every gardener loves them since they love eating aphids that destroys plants.
