This firehouse, located at 1341 Maryland Ave. NE and built in 1894, is one of several firehouses designed by Leon E. Dessez (1858-1918). His best-known building is the Admiral’s House at the Naval Observatory (1893), the home of the US vice president since 1974. This firehouse is in the Queen Anne style, in pressed brick with deep corbelling, pilasters capped with stone carvings of acanthus leaves and round arched windows. It now hosts condominiums, one of which is currently on the market for $1,095,000 after a price drop of $55,000.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.
