The Ebenezer United Methodist Church dates to 1827, when African-American members of the bi-racial Ebenezer Methodist Church left and established this church, often called “Little Ebenezer.” In 1864 the first public school for African-American children was established in the church. The current Ebenezer United Methodist Church was completed in 1897 after the previous church structure was damaged by a tornado.
