There was a huge exhibit at the American Art Museum of the work of Chiura Obata (1885-1975), who immigrated to the US in 1903 and went on to become one of the most significant Japanese-American cultural leaders of the last century.
I found his work to be very Japanese in feeling, such as this color ink on silk painted in Yosemite in 1937.
*****
Home to the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum, the Old Patent Office was constructed in 1838-1867 and encompasses two city blocks. The museums reopened after a major renovation from 2000 to 2006.
Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.
