We also went across the Potomac River to the Maryland side, where the old Chesapeake & Ohio Canal runs. This is a picture of Lockhouse 33, adjacent to Lock 33, visible in some of the old paintings of Harpers Ferry such as the one a few images back.
From the C&O Canal Trust: “Lockhouse 33 played an important role in John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry as John Cook, one of Brown's crew, worked here prior to the raid to gather information on the armory. Today, you can see the lock and the iron gate that closes the bypass flume.
“
Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.
