The all-American bike

Despite the fact that there were thousands of riders, I found it quite challenging to photograph them. After an initial flurry of pictures, I tried to identify ones from a distance who looked interesting for one reason or another (appearance, gestures, riding companion, flags, etc.) and get a shot as they approached, but while they weren’t exactly speeding, they were constantly on the move and sometimes had slipped out of focus or had already passed me by the time I got my act together.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

We went down to the Mall to see the final ride through Washington of Rolling Thunder, an advocacy group that seeks to bring full accountability for prisoners of war and missing in action service members of all US wars. The group's first demonstration was in 1988, and today -- with hundreds of thousands of participants -- was the last, due to what the group says are rising costs and "increased harassment" from the Pentagon. I'll be sad to see this 31-year tradition end.
