Across the water: Not all that impressed

Despite the great distance, Tim was intent on photographing some Great Egrets across the water, and he also wanted to see how and if continuous focus worked.

I only realized when processing his pictures that there were two egrets on the shore.

This series will be significantly cropped after already being cropped in camera using DX format. Still, I thought they turned out pretty well. I could barely even see the birds and most definitely couldn’t get them well enough with the Sony.

*****

We stopped at Virginia’s Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary, which we’ve passed many times on the parkway, to see what was there. It’s not an easy place to navigate and isn’t really set up for viewing anything, but we found a few openings on to the water and saw some great egrets and a few other birds along with dragonflies and other insects. It’s also on the final approach to Reagan National Airport.

The surprise, posted earlier:

I did spot the egret on the left and it is a nice bonus for viewers looking around the scene.

a fine image with admirable clarity....Tim might want to pick up a longer lens sometime, to extend his reach...that said, those monster lenses do look a tad unwieldy, and probably work best on a tripod..
