Tim really wanted to get another shot at the heron at the aquatic gardens, and sure enough he showed up, but still kept his distance, unlike the great egrets in previous pictures, who were quite accommodating for picture taking.

I had planned to end this gallery, but we went back to the 700-acre Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C., to take another stab at photographing one of the resident herons. Along the way to the marsh we saw lots of other things, including more lotuses, water lilies and dragonflies.
