Well, no offense meant to the sparrows and cardinal in the yard next door!

We took a drive down the George Washington Parkway, which runs along the Potomac River to Mount Vernon (Washington’s plantation), thinking maybe we could find some birds to practice photographing. This was the first bird I saw, from quite a distance. Tim said is that a seagull? And I said, no, that’s a heron, let’s go! (I hope I’m right ;-)). He didn’t stick around for long as he was busy fishing, but I was thrilled to see him and try to get a picture.
