The Crypt

George Washington was supposed to have been buried in the Crypt, directly underneath the domed Rotunda, but he stipulated in his will that he be laid to rest at his plantation in Alexandria, Virginia, on the banks of the Potomac. I can’t say that I blame him -- it’s a beautiful, peaceful place, whereas the US Capitol is not, especially now.
