It was clear when I called Sahraa inside yesterday that she had been digging in the garden since her nose was covered in dirt and her feet were filthy. She has been doing this ever since we lived in Budapest, where she had two acres to dig up, then in Riyadh, on a smaller scale, and now in our tiny garden in DC. We have put some barriers in her holes, like bricks and outdoor sculptures, but she always seems to find a new place to dig. If we fill in the holes, she has a field day with all that fresh soil.
