Shedding my abayas!

This will be my last abaya picture from Riyadh. It’s the cheapest one I own, yet I’ve worn it more than any other, exclusively around the DQ. It’s so easy to just throw over my head (has a small zipper), doesn’t matter what I wear underneath since it doesn’t open up in front and it really sparkles with the beadwork, which was the point of the picture but is hard to see. I tried to do this with a self-timer and there was nothing to focus on where I wanted to stand, plus that sun was just blinding (but no time to try it again).

We still have several hours before we leave for the airport, so I imagine I’ll post another picture, at least. I guess I’ll have to finish up the Masmak gallery from some other country!

Indoor courtyard, posted earlier:

There is something to be said for being able to just throw an abaya over whatever you are wearing and be good to go. YOu've certainly shown us some beautiful ones in your time there. V

You have always looked most elegant in these abayas and I like how Saudi women are using them to express themselves as much as they can.
I have enjoyed your wonderful diary of your adventures in a land which most of us will never visit and you have succeeded in highlighting the humanity of the people at a time which it is really needed. Safe travels.

Very elegant, Helen, I'm sure it would create quite an impact in Washington society! And bon yoyage.

Now you off to pastures new, Helen. Goodbye to your abayas and back into normal clothes again. Hope your journey goes well and is as less stressful as possible. Thanks for your wonderful photos from the DQ that you have posted each day, I have viewed them with much interest.
