Eight doors (7)

This will be a series of eight doors in the fort that I particularly liked. Most of them don’t look very restored and I imagine are the real thing. I have to apologize because I know they’re not well processed, but really, nothing had straight lines there, certainly not the doors, and the distortion was phenomenal in these images as well. The contrasts in light were pretty strong, too. I think it’s clear, though, how the Saudis came to make such beautiful gates for their homes in the present day; they have a very long tradition of such art.

I’ve been rushing through this sub-gallery of the fort, but I just don’t think I can get it done before we leave. However, I still have a good number of pictures from Riyadh that I want to post even if I’m no longer here (although I’m so sad to be leaving and wish I could be). So for the many people who have told me how sorry they are that the Saudi pictures will end, it will be a while before they do!

This is my favorite of the eight doors. It is so interesting to compare these doors with the present day ones. Impressive entrances do seem to be a tradition for the Saudis. When I walk around my neighborhood it is kind of depressing to see all the doors and entrances to homes. They all look so much alike, very boring! V

This does look very old - one wonders about the people that made these doors V

simple, yet with a certain earthy flair..it blends so well with the mud-walled setting..
