The sunburst gate

Back to gates, houses and commercial architecture until I find something new to photograph here!

This unusual gate was in a neighborhood we had visited before, but we had obviously missed a lot. A Saudi stopped us and asked why I was photographing people’s houses, saying people will wonder why I’m doing it and be suspicious. We said it was for the architecture, which he seemed to accept, but basically warned me to be careful in what I photograph. That unnerved me for a while, until we got to the next neighborhood. I do generally try to be discrete, but I guess will have to be more so now, like maybe not get out of the car so often and blatantly take photographs ;-).

Last glance at the dunes, posted earlier:

This is a very striking gate. People are so wary of photographers that I often feel self conscious when taking photos in public places. V

Indeed an unusual gate, but very beautiful, well captured Helen. V

A dynamic gate design! Weren't these artistic gates built to be admired as part of their function? Beauty attracts attention. You're doing the architects a favor by sharing their work with the world. However, do be careful!

Extraordinary gate and a rather formidable building behind. Hmmm, I would feel a bit antsy about taking more photos for awhile too! V

Very interesting building and well composed image. I like the secretive feel of the curved window. It would be scary to be questioned like that. V

perhaps a warning to heed... you have done well documenting your stay in SA, considering your initial apprehensions..
