Olaya Towers

Another view of Olaya Towers, which I find quite appealing, shot through the windshield. There are obviously all kinds of perspectives for these buildings, but this to me is one of the most attractive, showing the inner side of one of the towers. Out on the street closer in, that view is lost. It’s funny, though, with all these windshield shots of this structure, I’m unclear what color it really is – sometimes it looks teal and sometimes a darker blue, and pictures online are all over the place, too. Next time I see it I’ll have to make a mental note.

As I’m getting to the end of the series of photos taken a few weeks ago, I really want to get out and take more, but how funny that such a previously simple thing has become a big production: Since I can’t navigate stairs, Tim has to back me down our porch steps in the wheelchair and get me to the car so I can switch to my crutches and then climb in (that part is easy enough). And while I was complaining about drive-by and through-the-windshield shots earlier, that’s what I’ll be limited to now. But at least it’s something, and I’ve become more familiar with doing it out of necessity.

I’ve been researching new construction in Riyadh, and there are some places I simply must see, like a scientific institute and a women’s university, although I don’t know how accessible either is to the public (and the latter to men). Maybe I can use my lack of mobility to my advantage there ;-). Anyway, I’m hoping we can go out on Saturday to seek out new buildings. I guess we’ll see what we come up with!
