This week the 4th Summit of the Arab and South American Countries took place in Riyadh at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center, adjacent to the Ritz Carlton, where the delegates were staying. This is the gate and grand entry to the hotel (which is behind me). For some perspective, outside the gate is a major highway, and across it is the Diplomatic Quarter, where we live.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many flags in Riyadh, on every major road and overpass as well as here, at the conference center and hotel. They also tried to spruce up the city by putting plastic tubs of flowers on the roadsides.
