On our way back to Doha we stopped at Al-Wakrah, a seaside town that had an old souk under restoration and a promenade full of outdoor cafés. Apparently it’s the “in” place for city folks to come and unwind. I tried to get some pictures of Qataris since most of my previous galleries of Doha are only architecture. It’s just hard to do that in a country where people don’t want to be photographed and you don’t want to draw any more attention to yourself than you already have. Anyway, I guess I got the backs of some people while there ;-).
This will be a series of three pictures: These two men got out of their car, obviously planning to visit the souk area. They had no shemagh (headscarf) on and very long hair, which was a real surprise (but I am told is a new trend among young Gulf men). They proceeded to put their head coverings on, using the car windows as a mirror, and then they headed off. It was interesting watching them, but the photos needed to be surreptitiously taken, so not the greatest quality!
