Wadi Hanifa: Dam

We drove quite a ways into Wadi Hanifa, which is 120 kilometers long and runs through the city of Riyadh. There were some large properties with houses in the beginning, but the further we went, the sparser civilization got, although there seemed to be a lot construction going on in the middle of nowhere.

Way off in the distance beyond the overpass is Wadi Hanifa Dam. It’s hard to believe they’d need a dam here, but wadis do collect a lot of water on the rare occasions when it rains.

What a nightmare it has been with Pbase this evening. I sure hope it’s fixed by tomorrow.

New construction overlooking the wadi, posted earlier:

Desert washes can fill up quick. Very expansive view.

Sounds like our Arizona rivers, which most of the year are just dry river beds.

interesting to see it under construction and also the very simple bridge after all the more usual ornamentation
