Sahara Desert, scarab beetle

Morocco

The camel handler stopped to pick up this scarab beetle to show us. This was one reason why I wanted a tent with a bed, where I didn’t have to sleep on the sand ;-). Well, I couldn't have slept!

Our private Berber tent, posted earlier:

Oh my! Best reason for a bed.

I wouldn't want to sleep on the ground either! I have seen jewelry made in their likeness.

I hope you didn't see this before you went to bed :-)

Wel, these scarab beetles can easely enter a tent!

I'm not even sure if the bed would have kept me happy!

Beetles give me the creeps - don't think I'd ever pick one up (nor would I pick up a spider. I'm very picky about which insects I'd actually touch, but I sure love photographing them. (That is anything but a cockroach!)

a well-seized opportunity...scarab beetles figure so prominently in middle-eastern mythology..

I wouldn't be keen on sleeping with those beetles around me, either.
