Katara Cultural Village, amphitheater

We spent several hours looking around the Katara Cultural Village just outside the city. It’s hard to describe this place, but it was like a free-of-charge entertainment center that included new Qatari-style buildings, a large amphitheater, an arts center, several mosques, a beach, restaurants and a shopping area. I found the architecture in particular fascinating, and also liked a Qatari photo exhibit we visited as well. More about Katara: http://www.katara.net/english/about-katara/about-us/

The amphitheater (called by some a coliseum) was monumental and magnificent and is used as a venue for local events. I waited forever for three guys to get out of my way, but in the end had settle for a couple of them in the picture.

Quite an interesting looking place. Fascinating how they have combined the rectangular openings with the pointed arch openings. V

It looks magnificent! The person adds a great sense of how huge the place is. V

The person there gives a great idea of scale. What an amazing "coliseum". These countries must have architects lining up for assignments. Nicely captured (as always) Helen. V

An amazing structure. Do they have musical performances there? I know you said they weren't allowed in Saudi Arabia.

Superb place, I can almost see them with a production of Shakespeare!

Fantastic architecture. A modern version of the old theaters.

A mix of antique and modern in this wide amphitheater. The inclusion of the person gives a good idea of the monumental size. V.

Great composition and I think the person/people create a wonderful perspective. The smaller image is also a beauty! V
